The
Nation Blue will release their second album, Damnation,
on September 27.
“Brooding,
intense and jaw droppingly powerful” Kerrang! 7/2003
The
Nation Blue are your answer to one of modern life¹s
most loaded questions; ‘So what kinda music do you
like?’ Forget Norwegian Black Metal (circa 1999),
underground hip-hop or electro clash shit. Drop The Nation
Fucking Blue in polite conversation and watch your scene
points go off the dial.
The
three piece rock and roll juggernaut from Melbourne, Australia,
play music from the inside. Inside the heart, a forest,
the tour van, maximum security, your darkest thoughts. It
will make you dance but not fall to your knees. Scream but
not sob. Set outdoor furniture on fire but not punch on.
Following
their stunning 2001 debut A Blueprint for Modern Noise,
The Nation Blue are back with the brand new, dark and mysterious,
but devastatingly handsome, Damnation; an album that those
in the post-punk, loud/quiet musical world refer to as a
‘ball tearer’. That means it will slay you.
Recorded
at Melbourne’s Metropolis studios where such classics
as John Farnham’s ‘Whispering Jack’ and
‘Age of Reason’ were nailed, as well as the
Soundtrack to Mad Max, and Nick Cave’s ‘Let
Love In.’ Damnation is 14 tracks of bi-polar rock
and roll. A bunch of music illuminati were enlisted to help
out, notably, Linda J of Little Ugly Girls, Mike Noga of
Sandro and a mammoth choir featuring members of Magic Dirt,
My Disco, Sandro, the Breakdowns, ninetynine, Modern Warfare
and the Soldiers.
The
boys are especially excited about the track ‘Solar/Sonar’;
a dialogue between two people falling out of love which
was originally written in Spain, reworked in a corrugated
iron shed in the bush near Somerville on the Mornington
Peninsula and recorded in South Melbourne, Northcote and
on a roof top in New York where Scott McCloud of Girls Against
Boys laid down vocals.
Yes,
Damnation includes two love songs; but the other one is
about crashing your car while distracted by an attractive
pedestrian. It is appropriately called ‘Idiot’.
Referencing
the haunted streets of old Melbourne, the artwork cover
features Stephenson St, Richmond where the notorious Dennis
Allen owned 9 houses and chainsawed the legs off a Hell’s
Angel to fit him in a 44 gallon drum. The brilliant photography
comes courtesy of Andrew Dominik, whose recent credits include
directing the movie ‘Chopper’. Dominic, like
The Nation Blue, suffers an equally unquenchable thirst
for tales from the suburban underbelly.
The
Nation Blue OWN the stage but have been known to kindly
share it with some heavy hitters, among them the facial
haired Hot Water Music, the criminally minded Alkaline Trio,
the pretty boys of Girls Against Boys, the much hyped Bronx
and the ever delightful Magic Dirt. After touring on the
back of Blueprint for Modern Noise for almost two solid
years, The Nation Blue enjoys the company of some of the
worlds finest. Stage antics, which would leave a witness
to believe they have witnessed a pro wrestling bout, with
blood and scaring common and stitches numerous.
“One
of the most dynamic and exciting bands around today”
Beat Mag 03
Not
ones to sit back on their hard earned laurels, The Nation
Blue crew will soon be taking the songs of Damnation out
onto the paved bitumen of the dimly lit back streets of
your town. But remember, a Nation Blue live show is not
just a rock and roll gig, more like a Roy and Siegfried
tiger mauling accompanied by loud music.
Damnation promises to be a hot sophomore album from one
of Australian music’s most vital rock talents.

The
nation blue are a collective formed in Hobart at the end
of 1996. A three piece capable of producing solid sound,
their mass excedes their number. Relocation to the mainland
occured over the opening months of 2000 where a replacement
bass player was found and small town outlook reconstructed.
The first thing they learnt to do was dance and then they
learnt how to play in order to set themselves apart from
shoeqazing piers.
The live show became the principal mechanism of expression
and the nation have played with some of australia's finest
ensembles including 28 Days, Magic Dirt, Spiderbait, Embodiment
12:14, The Living End, Grinspoon, Blood Duster, Bodyjar,
Mindsnare, Jebediah, Warped, Blueline Medic. The Nation
have also toured nationally with HOT WATER MUSIC, as well
as a 30 date tour opening for GIRLS AGAINST BOYS and MAGIC
DIRT.Supports have also been done for Sommerset (NZ), H20
(US), Grade (Canada), Sparta (Usa), Off Minor (usa), Ataris
(US), Vandals, Snuff (uk), The Beat Crusaders (Japan), Numb
(japan) as well as blowing the ICARUS LINE (US) all the
way back to LA.
Drawing
large crowds and recapturing rock n roll music, which has
essentially resorted to a parody of itself. In order to
create something original formulas must be destroyed and
a new rule of 'no rules' implemented that states that if
you want to throw your guitar behind your back and dance
for the majority of the song then that is alright, or if
you want to scream over the top of the music without a microphone
then that is alright or if you want to start songs outside
venues in the streets then that too is alright, but most
of all if you to entertain people and make up for every
time they have been forced to sit through mediocrity then
that is important.
The
Nation Blue released their debut album "Blueprint for
Modern Noise" late 2001. This
representation features twelve songs that stretch over an
hour and outline the
parameters of the nation's dynamic chaos rock. , "Blueprint
for modern noise" is an
important album in the context of Australian rock and roll
and illustrates that there is more than one way to dance.
Team nation are currently working on Album number 2 which
is sure to step up peoples expectations of Australian music.
A new 7” will be released november.
With
an impending national tour, and the continuing success of
"Blueprint...," the Nation are sure to be making
many bands reconsider standing on stage.
