Hola
Dawgs!
Just
a real quick last minute reminder of this weekends Sommerset
shows.
Sadly
these are the last Sommerset shows we are
ever going to get to see here in Australia . I'm sure some
of you are already lined up outside the Annandale and the
Evelyn Hotels right now, but for the everyone else please
get down there early.
The
presales are disappearing pretty quickly and were snapped
up by people from all over the country. Peeps are flying
into Sydney and Melbourne for these shows from as far away
as WA! If you want to guarantee a ticket to these shows
– don’t count on being “on the doorlist”
– head to www.casadeldiscorecords.com/store
- we can hold them at the door for you.
(We
don’t mean to sound tight here, but there are heaps
of people who would normally just drop us a polite email
towards the end of the week and hook up guest list action
– sorry everyone – there will be no guest list
for these shows, so plan ahead)
Thurs
23rd June – Annandale Hotel, Sydney with Irrelevant,
Angela’s Dish and Huntsman
You
may notice a slight change in line up here – a couple
of the Grand Fatal boys are really ill. We hope they get
better soon, and finish off their album. Fortunately, Angela’s
Dish have been cool enough to step up to the plate and fill
the spot – these guys have sold out their last 4 shows
in Sydney so thats not going to make it any easier to get
in!
Fri
24th June – The Evelyn Hotel, Melbourne with Irrelevant,
Away From Now and Stayiong at Home.
Again
– get in early – the line will go all the way
down to Trampoline Ice Cream Store (yes – we’re
trying to score free ice cream)
And
then to top off a shit hot weekend, get along to Ding
Dong in Melbourne for The Nation Blue’s
last show for ages.
Sat
25th June – Ding Dong, Melbourne with Horsell Common
and A Death In The Family.
This
is a scorcher of a line up and the show will double as a
bit of a Sommerset after party so come
down and have a few drinks and see some of the best live
bands around.
Oh
yeah – we’re having a fire sale in the Casadeldisco
Records store –
go grab a bargain.
See
you up the front…
Salute,
Casadeldisco
June
4th 2005
Hola!
Hemos tenido nuestro subimos y las llanuras, pero el sol todavía brilla. (I hope this shit translates ok…..)
So we’ve had a couple of really up and down weeks in Casadeldisco
Office. Half a gob full of teeth being ripped out by
a denist who had mainly gold teeth of his own was pretty
rough, as was the associated bill. On the upside, Mersydol
Forte became a very close friend for the couple of weeks
post-op.
The sad news that arrived a couple of weeks and ago, and frankly, has would have to be a contender for worst kept secret, is that Sommerset have decided to call it a day.

A presser from the band reads:
In the last ten years, Sommerset's following has swelled from a dedicated core of hometown (New Zealand) supporters to thousands of listeners in over 15 countries. From Invercargill to Prague, Sommerset's dedication to touring their heartfelt blend of hardcore, punk and rock has been virtually unsurpassed. In the last ten years Sommerset have released three full length albums and numerous EP's, toured the globe on numerous occasions, played with some of the biggest names in music today and continued to deliver high quality New Zealand music to the world. Most importantly Sommerset have always done things their own way and now after 10 amazing years the boys from Sommerset are going their own ways.
In celebration of 10 incredible years of amazing shows, amazing friends, amazing music and amazing memories SOMMERSET will be playing 4 not-to-be-missed final shows. Reunited for the first time since the recording of their latest album SAY WHAT YOU WANT - original members RYAN THOMAS and STEFAN THOMPSON will be joined by founding drummer JAY DOUGREY and returning on guitar and vocals MILON WILLIAMS.
Thursday June 23rd
Annandale, Sydney
w/ Irrelevant, Grand Fatal + Huntsman
Friday June 24th
Evelyn, Melbourne
w/ Irrelevant, Away From Now + Staying At Home
Friday July 1st
Indigo Bar, Wellington
w/ KITSCH + Sidecar Fury
Saturday July 2nd
Kings Arms Tavern, Auckland
w/ KITSCH, Missing Teeth + Newayhome
Did somebody say… How do I get me some tickets?
There won’t be any presales (*warning – contradiction forthcoming*) for the Australian shows, but we know there are a bunch of interstaters/internationals who don’t want to miss out so we’re going to put 50 for each show on sale in the Casadeldisco store.
Buy these tix if you definitely don’t want to miss out. All the usually rules apply for these shows. The venue will check identification and has all its usual rights ie no shoes no shirt rah rah rah. Both shows are 18+ only. Casadeldisco will not take responsibility for you if you’re under 18 and cannot get into the gig. Don’t risk it kids! Ticket price includes normal postage – no registered mail.
And the presser continues:
Words can not do justice to the inspiring and emotional journey Sommerset has taken over the last 10 years. We thank them for the amazing ride.
Sommerset wish to thank all their friends and family across the world. The amazing people they’ve had the privilege of working with - especially all other past members, the people on whose floors they’ve slept on, the bands and their heroes they’ve played with, the gear they’ve borrowed and broken, their partners, mums, dads, siblings and family pets, credit cards, the support from NZ On Air and the media all over the world, and most importantly the friends, their fans that time and time again come to the shows with the fuel that’s kept the fire burning for the last 10 years.
And as with the teeth – there is an upside and it is that we get to see that band once more. Not only do we get to see Sommerset, but probably a return to what was their finest line up.
Gotta tell ya’ – we’re really excited about these shows, and equally heart broken at the same time. But the line ups are amazing and you’d nuts to miss these shows even if it wasn’t Sommerset’s last round. And as always we're stoked to have Bombshellzine.com onboard presenting these shows. If you haven't paid Bombshellzine a visit recently - get on over there and make an ass out of yourself on the forum.
But good things look like they’re brewing for the members post Sommerset. Milon’s new outfit , Cobra Khan, sounds awesome – check out some tracks here . Not sure what category we can label the music – we’re thinking either bro-core or cuzzie-core. Baah-core even. Dunno. Cobra Khan also has hardcore label boss and ex-Balance 4 stringer, Bubba playing the high strap, slap bass. We’re trying to twist their arm to show their faces sooner than later.
Nation Blue
7 inches are on the store page. Pick it up quickly because we only have a couple.
Shows
June 10th Spectrum Sydney Grand Fatal and Black Level Embassy. This show will sell out – AGAIN. After the last show with these bands at this venue – get there early!
June 25th Ding Dong Lounge Melbourne with special guests. Matt Weston tells us that this will be party night and he will be drinking Pink Slippers and Fluffy Ducks and all sorts of fancy fruity shit.
These Nation Blue shows are their last shows for a long time – Matt Weston is pissing off to LA to shoot film doco about dongs. He will probably take photos of himself with celebrities too.
You’ll be stoked to know that the boys are already writing a new album.
(Hi Dancin’ Dan’s Mum! Yes, we’ll make sure the boys eat well when they’re in Japan. Sorry we haven’t given you an update recently.)
The Bleeders are in full swing recording an album. Having tracked a bit in NZ, they head off to the states shortly to record their debut album, they have scored the services of Sal Villanueva (Thursday, Taking Back Sunday) on the knobs.
And just a final note – we have some great friends who
have started a late night club in Sydnos on Friday nights
at Bar Broadway. Its called Proper School and Sydneysider
should support. Unless of course , you want to keep hanging
out on ‘myspace’… We’re stoked because it sounds like they
have some rad stuff planned.

Recepción a otro mailout que se ha juzgado "listo pero no demasiado listo" ˇLeído en hermanos y hermanas!
A lot to pack into an emailer this week – keep reading there is good stuff all the way to the end!
Blueline Medic and Ted Leo & The Pharmacists
The split EP is out and getting a good old fashioned talking up all over the place – Sydney’s Daily Telegraph named the split EP “Single of the Week” last week saying it was ”rock at its finest”.
Get busy buying your tickets for Sydney and Brisbane – Adelaide and Melbourne – be at the doors early.

The split EP will be on sale at all shows, so if you haven’t already – get a copy – you will be instantly transformed into a record “Col-eck-tor”
Keep your eyes on the Teev over the next few weeks - Blueline Medic have produced a cracker of a video for the track ‘Newtown Rag’. The video, produced by Scottie Cameron, is quite the ‘work-of-art’. Scottie Cameron and Dave Snow (Blueline Medic) both recently exhibited in the “On the Wall” Skate Art Exhibition in Melbourne and it was there that the plan was hatched. We’re putting money on the fact that Scottie found the job to be a larger undertaking than he thought it was going to be.
Its based on still photography animation, so a frame by frame type arrangement – just stop us if we’re getting too technical for you…..anyway…..looking at the math on the task is scary. The video has 12 frames per second – 3 and a half minutes of song – that’s just over 2500 still shots to make this video. Scottie reckons 72 hours all up. The video features the desecration of a world famous music ‘bible’ – we’re hoping there are no legal issues….
An amazing video none-the-less and we’re sure people are going to be knocking down his doors with wads of cash before too long at all. “Do my video Scottie’ “NO! Do MY video Scottie. Pleeeease?!’ We can hear it now…….
Ted Leo and his boys are keeping VERY busy while they’re here. In addition to the tour with Blueline Medic, Ted Leo & The Pharmacists will be doing a side show at the Northcote Social Club.
Wed 27th April – Northcote Social Club, Melbourne
Tickets from the venue (301 High St, Northcote), online at www.northcotesocialclub.com and also via the Corner box office (57 Swan St Richmond. Mon–Sat 12-8pm) ph 94279198.
You can hear Ted Leo next Tuesday at 1:30pm on Myf Wharhurst’s Afternoon show on Triple J.Also catch Ted Leo cranking a couple of tunes out solo stylee (of course you do…) head down to Missing Link at 4:30pm to catch a set.
Blueline Medic will be on the tranny later on that night on Robbie Buck’s Home and Hosed program Tuesday night from 9:30pm talking all things split and tour related
Also – as a warm up for the Friday night show at the Evelyn, Melbourne punters can tune in and hear Ted Leo & The Pharmacists playing an exclusive live set on PBS 106.7’s Studio 5 Live – Thursday 28th April at 8pm with Lisa Palermo
And as if we hadn’t worked them both hard enough, both teams, Donnie and Lombi (Blueline) & Ted Leo drop into Fish Records on (King St, Newtown, Sydney) on Saturday afternoon, April 30th, to play a few pirate type shanty songs and talk to you all about which release of theirs’ is your favorite. Be there at 4:30pm for the start – actually get there a bit early – that shop doesn’t fit heaps of people.
Sommerset
As Sommerset jet back home to New Zealand after an awesome trip around the country with Strike Anywhere, a freshly signed set of licensing deals (one for us and one for them) gets aboard the FedEx plane headed for Japan.
The Japanese label, Pryopit, will release Sommerset’s ‘Say What You Want’ album in June. We all know the Japanese like to keep it all special-like and the album would appear to have not only 3 bonus tracks, and a visual component (3 videos and a NZ Squeeze TV documentary) and will probably have translated lyrics and super, super cool stuff like that…
As the boys head home with their little faces pressed up against the economy class windows waving goodbye… they are still moaning with praise for the original Belt Thrower, Beltsy… and vigorously clapping for Graham at Resist, Cam at Children of the Swarm, Todd at Artax, and the Destroy All Lines peeps. ALSO – special twinkle fingers to the Away From Now boise, The Critics, A Death In the Family, Burn the City and Grand Fatal.
The Nation Blue
Similarly The Nation Blue boys have been asking a lot of questions about the last couple of days……..’Do they really sell used underwear in vending machines?’ Yes ‘Can we really buy 1.5 litre cans of beer at any time of the day or night?’ Yes ‘Will I have to go hungry if I can’t use chopsticks?’ Yes ‘Will 1138 Records release our record and take us on tour?’ YES!
You heard it – The Nation Blue will be touring Japan Sept/Oct. After several abusive emails - certain transplanted Australians will be stoked (won’t they Tim!)
I’m sure it’s going to be some special release with heaps of bonus stuff that the Australian fans don’t deserve… so keep your eyes on the Casadeldisco Webstore – it’s bound to turn up there.
Shows
Make sure you get to these shows – it feel likes ages since the boys played last. We’ll fight you to stand up the front.
Fri 3rd June - Espy Front Bar, Melbourne
Fri 10th June – Spectrum, Sydney with uber guests
7 Inch
Also – Get on to The Nation Blue website and let them know you want a copy of the new single ‘Idiot’. Trial and Error knocked out this beauty. Only 300 of them pressed. ‘Idiot’ on one side and a Beast of Bourbon cover, “Is that Love?” on the other.Tex is all over it. This shit will sell on Ebay for like $187 in years to come. Wise investment tips from your friendly stockbroker mates at Casadeldisco.
Well, its going to be a busy couple of weeks – if you see us in a gutter, pick us up, dust us off and buy us beer please. Really.
hasta la vez próxima!

And for all those interested - the Casadeldisco Atleticos
lost a hard fought Softball match in Feb with those dirty,
dirty Tnucs. Keg was dry by the 8th inning. Our Softball
Association umpire was desperate for a bourbon by the third.
There was fighting, and we even experienced some streaking
(yes - female!) But in admitting defeat we must also admit
- we looked great!
Anyway - online
store is going great guns. For the next two weeks, order
two releases and we will throw in a third! Shoppers are
gobbling up the split EP's - and loving it because it gets
posted the next day!
And don't forget to be our new bestest myspacefriend.
Everyone is so nice over there! We've got a couple of Blueline
Medic - Ted Leo splits to give away for the most ass kissing,
sickening, cupcake-icing-sweet comments we get. So fire
away - see how much of a suck you can be!
Cheerio,
Casadeldiscount
